Sean “Diddy” Combs, once a titan of the music industry, is now at the center of a federal trial that could redefine his legacy. Facing charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution, the proceedings began with jury selection on May 5, 2025, in New York’s Southern District Court. Opening statements are scheduled for May 12.

The Charges

Combs faces five federal counts:

• Racketeering Conspiracy: Allegedly orchestrating a criminal enterprise involving coercion and abuse over two decades.

• Sex Trafficking by Force, Fraud, or Coercion: Accused of manipulating victims into non-consensual acts.

• Transportation for Prostitution: Transporting individuals across state lines for illicit purposes.

If convicted, Combs could face life imprisonment.

Key Evidence

• “Freak Offs”: Prosecutors allege Combs hosted drug-fueled sex parties, coercing participants and recording the events.

• Cassie Ventura’s Testimony: The singer and former partner claims years of abuse, with a 2016 video showing Combs assaulting her admitted as evidence.

• Additional Witnesses: At least two more victims are expected to testify anonymously.

Defense Strategy

Combs denies all allegations, asserting that any sexual activity was consensual. His legal team, led by Brian Steel, argues that the “swinger” lifestyle portrayed was mischaracterized and that some evidence may be doctored.

Trial Logistics

• Duration: Expected to last 8–10 weeks.

• Location: Daniel Patrick Moynihan Courthouse, New York.

• Public Access: The trial is not televised but is open to the public.
